Install and hardware#

Is there a cloud version?

No. ONEP is an appliance you run on your own hardware, and you sign in to it on your own appliance. There is no cloud account.

Which hypervisors can I use?

The appliance is an OVA. Install steps are given for Proxmox VE, VMware Workstation and VirtualBox. See Choose your format.

How big a host do I need?

At least 4 vCPU and 8 GB of memory for the appliance; 16 GB of memory is recommended. Small environments (2 to 3 devices, one virtual machine) run on 8 GB; medium ones (3 or 4 virtual machines) want 16 GB; large ones (6 to 8 virtual machines) want 32 GB. The appliance has a 200 GB thin-provisioned disk. The heaviest single-machine Content Hub cards need 32 GB. See Requirements and sizing.

A virtual machine device never starts. What should I check?

Nested virtualization. Virtual machine devices need it, and routers and containers do not. Set CPU type host on Proxmox VE, expose hardware-assisted virtualization to the guest on VMware Workstation, or tick Enable Nested VT-x/AMD-V on VirtualBox, and start the appliance again. The console banner and Settings › Status say when it is missing. See Troubleshooting.

Which browser should I use?

A current Chromium-based browser. Nothing needs to be installed on your laptop.

Can I sign in over SSH?

No. The appliance firewall allows only ports 80 and 443, plus a WireGuard UDP port when you turn that remote access method on. Everything is done in the web interface.

Images and licenses#

Where do device images come from?

You bring your own, or download them from the vendor through Discover. ONEP ships no vendor images. ONEP recognizes an image by its fingerprint either way.

What about vendor licenses?

They are yours, under your agreement with each vendor. Cisco IOL is bring-your-own-license: ONEP does not supply, sell or verify Cisco licenses.

Does ONEP need internet?

ONEP itself connects out only for what you ask for: Discover downloads, the first build of a Content Hub card, container pulls, the model download in Settings › AI, and an external AI service you configure. The appliance's operating system may fetch its own security updates from package mirrors, and needs DNS and time (NTP) on your network. Deployed environments do not need the internet to run. See What leaves the appliance.

Does ONEP send data about me?

ONEP sends nothing to ONEP on its own. It has no telemetry, and the license is checked locally against the signed license file. This release sends no license check-in. A problem report is sent only when you press Submit.

Editions and licensing#

How do I change edition?

After you buy, your license file is emailed to you, normally within one business day. Install the license file for the new edition in Settings › Licensing. The same appliance runs every edition, so there is nothing to reinstall and your environments stay.

What happens when my license expires?

When a paid license ends, the appliance keeps its edition for a grace period. After that it runs as Community. Settings › Licensing shows the date. See Licensing.

Is there a limit on how many devices I can draw?

No. Editions limit how many devices run at the same time and the size of the largest device, not how many you draw. See Limits per edition.

Can I move my license to new hardware?

To move to new hardware, or to run a second copy, write to hello@onep.io with your license ID. See Licensing.

Using ONEP#

Can my environments reach my network?

Not unless you open a door. Every environment starts sealed. A cloud node gives it outbound NAT or a bridge onto your LAN; Expose Containers opens an app in your browser. See Network and ports.

Do my environments start again after the appliance restarts?

No. After the appliance restarts, environments stay off until you start them.

Can I bring my EVE-NG lab files or GNS3 projects?

Yes. The Migration Hub reads EVE-NG (.unl), GNS3 (.gns3) and Packet Tracer (.pkt) files and a public GitHub repository, and shows a preview before the environment is created. See Migration Hub.

Which model does the AI Generator use?

The one you choose in Settings › AI: a model on the appliance, or an external AI service on your own account. With an external service only the text you type is sent. See AI Generator.

Can I update from inside the product?

No. The appliance is updated by installing a new ONEP release. Settings › Updates shows the version you run. See Updates.

Help#

Where do I get help?

Lite and Pro include support with a stated response time; see Limits per edition. Use Report a Problem in the product, or write to hello@onep.io. Community users can write to the same address.
