Which hypervisor to use#
- VMware Workstation: import the
.ovawith File › Open. - VirtualBox: import the
.ovawith File › Import Appliance, then turn on Nested VT-x/AMD-V before the first start. - Proxmox VE: unpack the
.ovaand import it withqm importovf. Newer versions can also import it from the web interface. - A dedicated server: install Proxmox VE on it, then import the
.ova. ONEP then has the whole server to itself.
Before you import#
- Your own images. You bring your own images, or fetch them through Discover. The appliance creates its own identity on first boot.
- Nested virtualization. Virtual machine devices need hardware virtualization, so the hypervisor must pass it through to the appliance. Turn it on before you start the appliance. Routers and containers start without it. See Requirements and sizing.
- Check the file. The download page links the SHA-256 checksums. Compare the checksum listed for the OVA with the checksum of the file you downloaded, for example with
sha256sumon Linux orGet-FileHashin PowerShell.
