Discover
Download device images straight from their vendor to your appliance.
Discover is the catalog tab of Centrum. It lists operating system bases, container images and a small set of open-source appliances that you can fetch into your library. A download comes straight from the vendor's own source to your appliance; nothing is mirrored by ONEP.
Discover is not a separate item in the sidebar. Choose Centrum in the sidebar, then the Discover tab at the top of the page. The other tab, My Centrum, holds the images you already have. Centrum opens on Discover the first time you visit when the library is empty, and afterwards on the tab you used last.
Browse the cards#
- Search images matches a card's name, vendor, class and role.
- The VM and Container buttons switch between virtual machine images and container images. ONEP remembers the choice.
- View 20 / 50 / 100 / All sets how many cards show at once. Prev and Next move between pages.
- On Community and Lite a line above the cards shows the monthly download meter: N of M downloads left this month, or, when it is used up, This edition allows M image downloads a month. The next one is possible on a date.
A card shows the image's logo and name. A badge at the top right says Installed when the image is already in your library or a short note when it cannot be downloaded. An EOL tag marks an image whose vendor no longer supports it. A View details hint at the bottom invites you to open the card.
Add an image#
- Open Centrum › Discoverand choose VM or Container.
- Open a cardSelect it and it turns over to show who made the image, its type and role, the login and password the image signs in with, its authentication method and its status.
- Choose Add to CentrumA confirmation shows what you are adding, the login, the Download size and the Free space in your image store, and a license notice from the image's vendor. If the image would not fit, the dialog says Not enough storage to keep this image and Add is off; if space is tight it warns that converting the image can briefly use more. Choose Add to Centrum again to start.
- Watch the progressThe card and a progress dialog show the phase (Downloading, Verifying, Unpacking image, Converting to a bootable disk, Saving to your library, Registering in your Centrum), the percentage, bytes and speed. While you wait the dialog tells a short story about the image's creator. When it finishes the image appears in My Centrum, ready to use on the canvas.
Controls while a download runs, on the card and in the dialog:
- Stop pauses the transfer; Resume continues it from where it stopped. A dropped connection also resumes by itself.
- Cancel asks Cancel this download? and then discards it.
- If it fails, the card shows the reason with Retry and Dismiss.
Containers are pulled rather than downloaded; the same card, meter and progress controls apply. The ONEP Agent card is the exception: it is built on your appliance in about three minutes instead of downloaded, and its button reads Build & add.
A card marked Installed is already in your library; turn it over to see Remove. A card that cannot be downloaded cannot be added.
Monthly downloads#
Community and Lite allow a fixed number of Discover downloads per calendar month. Images and container pulls count together, and the meter above the cards shows what is left. See Limits per edition for the numbers on each edition.
- Past the monthly number, the download is refused until the month rolls over. Images already in your library are not affected.
- Registering your own images does not count. Fetching the operating system an appliance build needs does not count either.
- Resuming a paused download does not count again; downloading the same image again after it finished does.
Good to know#
- Discover needs internet access from the appliance. Everything you have already downloaded works offline.
- Every image downloaded through Discover carries the Source mark Vendor, because ONEP knows where the bytes came from. It is not offered Register to ONEP.
- Some cards carry a Microsoft evaluation image. The confirmation says so; the media is time-limited and not for production use. See Windows evaluation media.
- Remove deletes the image and its file, after you confirm. It can be added again from Discover later.
- For vendor images that Discover does not list, bring your own copy through Register image, under your own license with that vendor.
