Community or Lite
Every appliance starts as Community. Upload a Lite license and it becomes Lite.
On this page
There is one ONEP download. You do not choose an edition when you download or install: every appliance starts as Community, and becomes Lite when you upload a Lite license. Nothing is reinstalled, and your environments stay where they are.
Start as Community#
Install the appliance and sign in. With no license file installed it runs as Community: free, with Community's limits. You can use it that way for as long as you like. The sidebar shows a small Community tag beside the product name, and Settings › Licensing shows ONEP Community with the line free, single-seat edition.
Become Lite#
After you buy, your license file is emailed to you, normally within one business day.
- Open Settings › Licensingas
admin. - Choose Install license file…and select your Lite license,
onep.lic. - DoneONEP verifies the file, confirms the edition, seats and expiry, and the interface reloads as Lite. No restart, no reinstall.
You can also install the license during the first-time setup. See Licensing for everything the Licensing tab shows.
What changes when you add a Lite license#
Lite raises the limits: more devices running at once, a larger largest device, more saved environments and more Discover downloads. It removes the monthly allowance on Content Hub deploys and AI topologies, and it opens every single-device Content Hub card. Lite adds remote access through Cloudflare Tunnel, Tailscale and Dynamic DNS, in addition to WireGuard, and it adds Report a Problem. Every number is in Limits per edition.
Everything else is the same on both: one user account, the canvas, the Migration Hub, the AI topology builder, browser consoles, packet capture and the cloud node. The full comparison, including Pro, is in Limits per edition and on the Editions page.
What is hidden or locked on Community and Lite#
Features that an edition does not include are hidden from the menus, or shown as a quiet line of text in place of the control. They are never shown as a dimmed button or an empty table. A page you reach by typing its address says in one sentence that it is part of ONEP Pro.
| Feature | What you see | Community | Lite |
|---|---|---|---|
| Audit log | No Audit item in the sidebar. The address /audit shows a locked page: Audit log is part of ONEP Pro, with the line It records who changed what on this appliance. | Locked | Locked |
| More user accounts | No Users item in the sidebar and no Users & access tab in Settings. The address /users shows ONEP Community includes one user account or ONEP Lite includes one user account, with More user accounts are part of ONEP Pro. Adding a second account is refused with the same sentence. | Locked | Locked |
| Configuration versions | No Config history tab in Settings. On a device, the configuration editor shows Configuration versions are part of ONEP Pro. Saving and exporting a Cisco device configuration stays available, without history. | Locked | Locked |
| Snapshots and checkpoints | No Snapshots group in the device menu, and no snapshot or checkpoint button on the canvas | Hidden | Hidden |
| Session recording | No record control on the Environments page | Hidden | Hidden |
| Capture report | In the capture list, Report: ONEP Pro replaces the Report button. Capturing and downloading the .pcap file stay available. | Locked | Locked |
| Content Hub cards that need more | The card stays visible, and Runs on ONEP Lite or Runs on ONEP Pro replaces the Deploy button. A card is locked when its largest device is bigger than the edition's largest device size, or when it has more than one device. | Locked | Locked for multi-device ranges |
| Expose a container port | Available for Content Hub applications only | Limited | Limited |
| Remote access methods | The method picker in Settings › Remote access offers WireGuard only | WireGuard only | All four methods |
| Report a Problem | The sidebar and the Dashboard show Community, which opens the ONEP community in a new tab, in place of Report a problem | Community link | Report a problem |
| API tokens | No API tokens card in Settings › Account. Scripts cannot call the API: use the web interface. | Not available | Not available |
If a license expires#
When a paid license ends there is a grace period, 14 days for a paid license. After that the appliance runs as Community: nothing is deleted or stopped, your environments stay open and editable, and devices that are running keep running. A new environment, or a start that would take the appliance past the Community limits, is refused until you renew or delete some. Install a renewed license and the appliance is Lite again at once. See Licensing.
Pro#
Pro runs on the same appliance: a license upload, not a new install. Multi-device ranges, snapshots, checkpoints, session recording and the audit log are Pro.
