Questions people ask before they install.
Short, plain answers about your hardware, your images and your license.
Before you install
What is ONEP in one sentence?
A platform you run on your own hardware to build and run network and security environments from your own device images.
Where does it run?
On your own server or workstation, under VMware or Proxmox. You sign in to it in your browser, on your own machine, and there is no cloud account. Nothing leaves your network.
What size machine do I need?
The minimum is 4 vCPU and 8 GB of memory. The appliance disk is 200 GB, thin-provisioned, so keep about 100 GB free on the host datastore to start and more for your images. 16 GB of memory is recommended, and more cores run more devices at once. Your CPU needs Intel VT-x or AMD-V, with nested virtualization turned on before the first boot.
Do I need internet?
Not to run. Your environments work without it. The appliance goes online only for what you ask for: Discover downloads, the first build of a Content Hub blueprint, container pulls, and the AI builder calling the model you set up. There is no license check-in, because your license is verified on the box from the signed file. It does need DNS and time on your network.
Editions and licensing
Is Community really free?
Yes. It has no time limit and it is yours to keep. It runs up to 10 devices at once, up to 2 CPU and 8 GB per device, with 3 saved environments and one user. You can draw as many devices as you like.
What does Lite add?
Lite is USD 129 a year. It runs up to 30 devices at once, up to 8 CPU and 24 GB per device, with 5 saved environments. It adds every single-machine blueprint in the Content Hub, and Cloudflare Tunnel, Tailscale and Dynamic DNS next to WireGuard for remote access.
How do I change edition?
After you buy, your license file is emailed to you, normally within one business day. Install it in Settings, Licensing. The same appliance runs every edition, so nothing is reinstalled and your environments stay.
What happens when a paid license ends?
You get a 14-day grace period. After that the box runs as Community: nothing is deleted or stopped, your environments stay open and editable, and running devices keep running. A start that would take the box past the Community limits waits until you renew or free some room.
Can I move my license to another machine?
Restoring a snapshot, moving the virtual machine to another hypervisor or replacing a network card keeps your license. A cloned copy does not. To move to new hardware or run a second copy, write to hello@onep.io with your license ID and we will move it.
Running it
What images can I run, and where do they come from?
You bring your own, or download them from the vendor through Discover. Centrum recognizes each one by its fingerprint, so you know what it is before it runs. No vendor images are included, and vendor licenses stay yours under your agreement with each vendor.
Can I bring my EVE-NG, GNS3 or Packet Tracer topologies?
Yes, on every edition. The Migration Hub reads EVE-NG, GNS3 and Packet Tracer files, zip and tar archives, GitHub repositories and URLs, and rebuilds each one as an environment. Device configurations come across where the source file carries them. Imports run one at a time.
How do I open consoles?
In your browser, on every edition. Device and container consoles open in a current Chromium-based browser, and nothing needs to be installed on your laptop.
Can I reset an environment to first boot?
Yes. Reset to first boot and restart are on every edition. After the box itself restarts, environments stay off until you start them.
Where do I get help?
Start with the documentation. On any edition you can write to hello@onep.io. Lite adds Report a Problem inside the product, with a response in 3 to 5 working days.
