Backups and restore

How to protect an appliance, and what Settings › Backup & restore and Reset show.

On this page
  1. Protecting an appliance
  2. Secrets and support files

ONEP has no backup or restore that you run from the web interface. Settings › Backup & restore says so, and has no buttons. Settings › Reset lists two actions, Delete all environments and images and Reset appliance to first boot, with their confirmation boxes and buttons disabled and the line Not available in this release.

Protecting an appliance#

ONEP runs as a virtual machine, so the dependable way to protect it is your hypervisor's own backup or snapshot of the whole virtual machine. Stop your environments first, shut the appliance down from the hypervisor, and take the backup or snapshot while it is off.

  • Your license survives a restore. Restoring a snapshot or restoring the appliance in place keeps its license. Running a cloned copy does not. See Licensing.
  • Images are large. Images and environments live on the appliance's disk and make up most of a backup's size. Images downloaded through Discover can be downloaded again, but each re-download counts against your Discover download limit; see Limits per edition.
  • Reset one device, not the appliance. Returning a single device to its first boot is an everyday action on the canvas; see Environments.

Secrets and support files#

AI provider keys and remote-access secrets are stored on the appliance and never shown again. Support bundles never include passwords, keys, certificates or license files; see The diagnostic bundle.
